The Mission of Library and Learning Services is to "enhance and enable learning".

In keeping with its parent organisations, the department is committed to delivering high quality learning services in support of education, training, research and advice.

These services are:

A commitment to quality management is a distinctive feature of our work. The Barrington Library plays a key role in collecting, organising and disseminating knowledge assets for teaching, learning, research, consultancy and advice. These services are characterised by a high standard of customer care, relevant to individual users, and focussed on our customer needs. We continually assess our performance, both formally and informally, and realign our services and resources to meet the changing needs of our customers. The Barrington Library has a leading position in customer satisfaction & quality as measured by the international LibQUAL+ library survey. Nationally, we have co-ordinated the SCONUL LibQUAL+ cohort since its introduction to the UK in 2003.

The Barrington Library seeks to exploit new developments that offer potential to improve information and knowledge management. As well as being at the forefront of e-resource and e-library developments & e-publishing awareness, we provide our own innovative services to meet the specialist needs of our customers, for example AERADE and the Shrivenham Index. We are currently developing our own Information Literacy Tutorial to the benefit of all our users.
