Interlibrary loans - common questions

What if I'm not at Shrivenham?

Most articles will be sent to you electronically.

We can usually post printed inter library loans (books or articles) to you by recorded delivery. Please add your current address to the comments section of your request and ensure someone will be available at this address to sign for receipt.

If you are unable to return the loan in person, you must send it back by recorded delivery.

We are unable to send interlibrary loans overseas.

We are unable to allow "Reference" Inter Library Loans to leave our Library (these terms are set by the lending library we borrow material from).

Can I request more than one article from the same journal issue or volume of a conference?

To comply with copyright law, we cannot provide more than one individual article per issue of a journal, or more than one conference paper per volume of a conference.

However:

  • If you need more than one article from an issue of a journal, you can request the entire issue.
  • If you need more than one paper from the same volume of a conference, you can request the entire volume.
  • If you need more than one chapter from a book, you can request the entire book.

How long can I borrow a print inter library loan?

The length of the loan is determined by the lending library. A standard loan is normally 4 weeks.

It may be possible to renew items but there is a charge to you or department to do this. Check with the interlibrary loan staff if you wish to retain an item for a longer period.
