New Library Search from 9 March!

From Thursday 9 March, you will only need one search box to search across the Library’s print and online resources. Library Search will replace the existing Library Catalogue and SearchPoint systems, making it easier for you to find the books, theses, journal articles, conference papers and reports you need to support your teaching, research and work.

Improving your experience

Most importantly, Library Search will save you time and provide better searching capabilities from one search box. There will also be some key changes to the way you use the new system:

  • A new Publication Finder will replace our Find eJournals at search. In addition to using it to search for eJournals by title, you will now be able to find eBooks we subscribe to as well
  • SFX (the software that links search results to the full text in our eResource subscriptions) will be replaced by a new service called Full Text Finder
  • Cranfield Defence and Security staff and students: you will now be able to log in to Library Search with your University network username and password
  • You can opt in to receive text messages from us when reservations are ready for collection

Downtime – Monday 6 March

To prepare for the move, there will be a period of downtime on the Library Catalogue on the morning of Monday 6 March. Then between 6 – 9 March the content in the Catalogue will remain static. This means that although you will be able to search our holdings as usual, information about whether items are on loan or on the shelf may not be accurate, and you will not be able to reserve items.

Library Search is the result of a year-long project to integrate the library systems across both campuses on one platform. This will provide a unified approach to print and eResource management and streamline existing processes. It also enables us to exploit the new technologies on offer and create value for money.

Our Library staff are delighted to be able to launch Library Search at last and will continue to develop the system after go live – there are many more exciting developments in the pipeline!
